CORNER KITCHEN PIES

HANDS TO HEARTH CENTER

Things are rolling right along at the Corner. We are set to launch the Protein Pre-Orders for the holidays, Sandwiches and Pies are being cranked out daily, and we continue to settle in with a bevy of fall fruit and vegetable crops. Hearty soup additions like Rutabagas and Celeriac from Midori Farm have joined their brethren on the Produce Porch, as well as our seasonal roasting fave, Brussels Sprouts, from Stellar J Farm. We also have some great restocks on Store Merch, with the full array of colors for our signature Beanie. Read on for all the ways to light your oven fires!

PIE TO THE FACE

We are so grateful to our CCF kitchen staff (namely Hanni) for skillfully tending the dough sheeter to get cranking on our Take-and-Bake Pie offerings. Thus far, we have three options. Option one is a Brown Sugar and Cardamom Green Bartlett Pie, using pears from Tonnemaker Hill Farms. We also have a classic Fall Apple Pie, using Macoun apples from Tonnemaker Hill as well. Finally we have a Gluten-Free Apple Pie using the aforementioned apples as well. Keep your eyes peeled for the addition of a Pumpkin Take-and-Bake Pie as well, likely debuting in the next dough cycle.

For those that have their own “innards” to use, we also offer Pie Shells that are scratch-made and then frozen to facilitate your pie-making predilections.

And for those on the go, try our rotating selection of mini pies! They are so cute!

Delete if not necessary… We have some new deals that will pair nicely with your pie pursuits. The So Delicious Coco Whip is on sale, as is the Cosmic Bliss line of Plant-Based Ice Creams. Stock up now to keep your pie game stylin’ all the way to the holidays. Note: the pumpkin puree mentioned in the October deals remains on sale through November as well!

KAUAIAN CHRONIC

We are excited to announce the arrival of the first of the new crop gingers from Kolo Kai. A small mom and pop on the island of Kauai with ties to the Olympic Peninsula, we are proud to purchase farm-direct from Ben and Collette. Available now is the premium-grade White Ginger as well as the spicy, piney Galangal aka Thai Ginger. While we wait for Kolo’s turmeric we also have Fijian turmeric from Organically Grown. If you’ve never had fresh ginger, it is practically a separate experience from traditional cured yellow ginger. Used for pickling and plating with sushi, it is tender enough to bite into raw. The White Ginger season is shorter than the Yellow Ginger, so now is the time to enjoy this complete delicacy.

CASE DEALS

Only one addition to the Tonnemaker Hill Farm encyclopedia of apples this week: Candy Crisp! Candy Crisp is a green to yellow skinned, tall, blocky apple that has high sugar content and is good for fresh eating or baking. We also have a new pear from Tonnemaker - Comice! According to our produce buyer Emily it is “among the best of the dessert pears.” Come on in for full availability on cases of apples, pears, and winter squash.

PUMPKIN PRIZE

The moment so many of you have been waiting for has come… time to reveal the weight of our giant pumpkin in the Nursery and the winner of the guessing contest! Congrats to our winner, Sandi who guessed the exact weight!

CAMP BEAUSITE

Camp Beausite Northwest, located right here in Chimacum, is in search of new donors to support their 2024 Annual Fund Campaign. Camp Beausite is an incredible resource in our community that provides the overnight camp experience for people of all ages with special needs while simultaneously providing respite for their families and caregivers.

Individuals with disabilities and special needs are an integral part of every community, transcending all demographics, including race, age, and socioeconomic status. Despite this pervasive presence, advocacy and funding for individuals with disabilities remains alarmingly low. This disparity highlights the urgent need for increased support and resources to ensure that all individuals with disabilities have access to the opportunities and assistance they need to thrive.

We salute you becoming a donor this year, in support of their family respite scholarships and program funding. For more information please feel free to contact Raina Baker, Executive Director, and check out their Camp Video! Follow this link to DONATE NOW.
