FESTIVE GREENS

A large part of the beauty of the Peninsula lies in our coniferous forests, who stay “forever green.” This week we are celebrating greens of all stripes. A big thank you to all who came out and purchased wreaths from Sky Island Farm over the last few weeks, y’all blew through the inventory! Read on for more verdant content from the Nursery, Kitchen, Grocery, and Produce departments. As Kermit the Frog once said, “It isn’t easy being green,” but gosh if we aren’t grateful for chlorophyll around here!

EVERGREEN STATE OF MIND

The Nursery has a well-curated collection of Blue Noble Firs from Crescent Moon Nursery. Available in 5 and 10 gallon pots, they make the perfect living tree to decorate for the holiday season. Having enjoyed them in or around your home, your first New Year’s Resolution can be to plant a native tree! There’s one decorated on the Produce Porch for a little inspo. We also have a great selection of miscellaneous Cedars in 2 and 5 gallon pots, large Giant Sequoias, as well as the unique “Silberlocke” Korean Fir.  Now’s the time to get evergreen! And though we’ve sold through most of our Sky Island Farm wreaths, we still have a few pure cedar rounds and 10ft sections of garland. With fresh wreath deliveries from local neighbors and Dragon Heart Flower Farm- who will also be hosting a make your own wreath workshop alongside wine tasting in the Nursery Greenhouse for Chimacum Holiday Weekend! EATING LOCAL GREENS
IS A SPECIAL TREAT

By this point in the season, you’ve probably gotten pretty accustomed to the bunched greens section being entirely local. But as we head towards solstice, every local item of produce becomes more and more precious. Red Dog Farm continues to deliver in this category, with bunches of Red and Green Curly Kale, Rainbow Chard, Collard Greens, and of course, the queen of kales, Lacinato. And while local salad mix and spinach sources have paused, we still have gorgeous bags of Stir Fry Mix from  Red Dog as well. Make sure to keep eating local while it is still around!

CASE DEALS

With the advent of citrus season, we have a great small-case deal going with satsuma mandarins. 5lb cases are going for $14.99, which saves you a dollar per pound compared to the normal shelf price. Load up with sumptuous, refreshing snacks for your whole week!

PEAR NECESSITIES

Get your greens arranged artfully in the Corner Kitchen Poached Pear Salad! Sliced Tonnemaker Pears poached in Rose lay atop local mixed greens with Mystery Bay chevre, pepitas, and rosemary. Sharp, sweet, and crunchy, this is a winter salad with panache. Available in the Deli Case daily!

GREEN BEAN(IE) & MORE

Now that we have entered the “perpetual refrigerator” phase of Northwestern winter climes, it’s time to add another CCF beanie color to your repertoire! Though our theme of the week is all about evergreen spirit, we still have a cornucopia of colors available for your perusal and enjoyment. Perhaps you need to collect the whole rainbow for a beanie is to your liking for each day of the week?  It’s also a super easy gift idea!

NEW DEALS WHO DIS

December is here, and so are some new deals in the grocery aisles. Nothing says “tidings of good cheer” like steep savings on tea, butter, chocolate, and more! Keep an eye out as our deals program will be shifting into a bi-weekly cycle going into the New Year too! Meaning you’ll see a new Deals cycle every two weeks.

Chimacum Arts & Crafts Fair

Mark your calendar for the Chimacum Arts & Crafts Fair, Dec 14th (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.) & 15th (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.), at Chimacum High School. This beloved annual local tradition is in its 37th year and will be featuring over 100 talented artisans from near and far. The fair promises a vibrant array of handmade goods, including one-of-a-kind jewelry, handcrafted home decor, holiday schwag, cozy textiles, wreaths, pottery, woodwork, original art, and so much more. In addition to local artisans, youth and community groups will be raising funds for their programs, including 4H clubs, The Gathering Place, and the Rotary’s annual pictures with Santa. Chimacum High School’s Culinary Arts class will be serving hot soup and grilled sandwiches out of their FEED Truck, the state’s first student-run food truck enterprise! With something for everyone, it’s the perfect opportunity to find unique gifts while supporting local craftspeople.

Enjoy this cozy winter season as we cruise towards the solstice!
