SOLSTICE SUPREME

Happy Solstice Chimacum Corner Community!

“Nothing fades like the light” wrote Orville Peck on his lauded debut album “Pony,” and that much is true. Merry Winter Solstice, everyone. No snow this fall, other than the Snowbale People that have sprung up around town. Yet the light still fades, and so it is in our darkest days that we turn to one another and reflect on another season gone. Nothing cuts through the gloom like sharing with friends. Long evenings are tailor-made for well-plated spreads of local bounty. If you need last minute gifts, the Corner is a great place to pick stuff up on the fly.

COZY COTTAGE CORE

In these dark and blustery days, it is paramount to keep the warm beverages department well stocked in your household. Fortunately we have great deals on teas at the moment. Both the Choice Organics and Traditional Medicinal lines of tea have some steep discounts. Don’t forget we have an abundance of locally blended teas as well. Of course, that tea will need to be sweetened with honey, and we have quite the assortment of local honeys as well. Whether you like Sailing S, Tarboo Valley Bees, Pixie, or Fountainhouse, we’ve got you covered. If that’s not enough zip, we also have a great deal on the Pachamama line of coffee beans. Get 10 oz of coffee for under 9 bucks! If you want to keep it local, you can always snuggle up with beans from Sunrise or Port Townsend, which are always on tap at our coffee corner. Whatever warm beverage you prefer, it is always good practice to quaff it from a CCF mug, available in several styles.

FLOURLESS WONDER

A new offering has arrived from the Corner Kitchen, and it is decadent. Say hello to the Flourless Chocolate Torte. Rich and smooth, the Chocolate Torte is enrobed in a Goat Cheese Drizzle, made with Chevre from Mystery Bay Farm. Topped with pistachios, this little slice of heaven really takes the edge off on a long cold night.

BITTER IS BETTER

Now is the time to savor the complex nuances of that most seasonal of delights, the radicchios! In addition to the standard Chioggia radicchio, we have the variegated Chioggia called “Lusia,” and the Rosalba, or as we like to refer to it, “the champagne of radicchios.” Rosalba is a late-harvested radicchio, as it gets its delightful pink hue from the frosty conditions of late fall. It makes the perfect ribbons to adorn the top of a salad. If Rosalba were a song, it would obviously be “Pink Pony Club.”

WINTER BLOOMS

If you are looking for a gift for your favorite plant-lover, we have some lovely trellised camellias available in the nursery. Camellias, with their waxy evergreen foliage, are some of the first blooms of the season, opening in late winter. A ray of hope in the long dark cold. Come on in to check out all of our varieties!

SNOWBALE PEOPLE

A small family of Snowbale People have sprung up around Chimacum Crossroads. These guys don’t quite have “a corn-cob pipe and button nose,” but they definitely have some farm-chic Chimacum flair. A huge shout-out to Austin Bishop and the Bishop Family for volunteering their bales and setting them up to add a little festive cheer to our thoroughfares. Have you spotted all of them yet?
