CITRUS! DELICIOUS & NUTRITIOUS
Hello Chimacum Corner Community!
In the citrus-less ecology of the Northwest, the true fruit nerds await mid-winter with utmost anticipation. For this is the time when you can get your hands on much more than a Valencia Orange or Red Grapefruit in the citrus department. In fact, inventory would suggest that mid February is the peak diversity moment in the citrus season. Rediscover all your faves (and new cultivars too) on the Produce Porch, as well as many other citrus flavored products all around the Corner. Now is the time to soak up that captured sunshine and reward the body with some Vitamin C. We know that the whole Corner crew will be!
MYSTIC CITRIC
Hopefully you had the chance to come out and sample citrus with Brendon O’Shea of Organically Grown on Friday. For those of you who did not, we have some great deals on citrus and also a deep collection of different types to try. Our “big deal” is on 4lb bags of Johansen Ranch Organic Navel Oranges, only $4.99 per bag! These babies perfume the entire walk-in cooler with sweet orange notes. We also have the pink-centered Cara Cara Oranges on sale for $1.99 per lb. Another great option in the citrus department that just landed is the Honey Gold Grapefruit from Texas. This is a high sugar, low tannin yellow grapefruit that is eagerly awaited each citrus season. New additions to the mini-citrus category include the succulent and extremely easy-to-peel Kishu mandarin, as well as the sweetest of kumquats, the Meiwa. Much to get excited about in fruit world. Now is the time to experience this year’s citrus crop at its best and most diverse!
Don’t miss out on Brendon from OGC on the Produce Porch tasting citrus from 1pm to 4pm today, Friday, February 14.
TROPICAL GOODIES TO GO
For some early morning brightness, try the Dairy-Free Mango Coconut Overnight Oats from the Corner Kitchen. These are not your run-of-the-mill overnight oats. These puppies are smooth, dense, and packed with tropical flavor, and have the cutest sprig of mint on top. The interplay of mango and shredded coconut is a divine start to the day.
Not to be outdone by breakfast, the Corner Kitchen team has also concocted a new dessert biscuit, in the Lemon Curd and Mascarpone vein. Velvety lemon curd and thick cream in a flaky biscuit, I mean, come on.
CASE DEALS
It’s all about the 4lb bag of Johansen Ranch navels for only $4.99 for the next few weeks! It’s only fitting that we stock our navels from the “the northernmost citrus growing region in the world.” Johansen Ranch is a heritage citrus farm and company, with over 30 years of experience.

OLIPOPPIN’ OFF
The meteoric rise of Olipop has not gone unnoticed at the Corner. We are excited to have this “new kind of soda” on deal for the latter half of February. Might we suggest an Orange Squeeze or Ginger Lemon flavored Oli to go with your citrus haul from the Produce Porch? Regardless, we are almost up to a dozen flavors of Olipop in our beverage case, so there is sure to be a flavor for everyone in your bunch. Stock up while supplies are high and prices are low!
DRIED FRUIT
If you’re in need of something sweet that can survive in your backpack, purse, or car, check out our stock of bulk dried fruits! Whether you love Dried Pineapple Rings, or chewy Banana slices, Dried ataulfo Mango cheeks, or Organic Crystallized Ginger from Hummingbird, we’ve got you covered.
SEED AND SOIL
Now that we have made it through the Persephone Period of less than ten hours of daylight per day, it’s time to start amassing your library of fresh vegetable seed for the garden. As we have a great returning crew of people out in the Nursery, seed selection is based on many years of customer feedback and first hand intel. For the smallest carbon footprint, and potentially the best adaptivity, we have the local seedtenders Saltwater Seed Company, Friends of the Trees, and Inside Passage. For slightly further afield seed we have Deep Harvest and Adaptive Seeds, and we also have some seed from High Mowing to fill in the gaps in what is available locally.
While you are combing the seed catalogue, you might consider picking up some of your propagation needs as well. Finding a sterile propagation mix that you like can be a challenge, some savvy gardeners are even inclined to make their own. We also have a small collection of seed starting accoutrement as well. Here’s to hoping for an abundant 2025 gardening season!
JEFFERSON AQUATIC COALITION SURVEY
