Surviving the Storm

It was a wind storm to remember on Friday, Nov 4th, causing 19,000 homes and businesses in Jefferson County to lose power, many for 48 hours or longer. The store lost a full weekend of business and had its hands full trying to get its generator to work, shuttling food to and fro, etc. What’s always heartening is to see our amazing community come together at times like this.

Settin’ Up Shop in Chimacum, WA - Corner Store Beginnings

When we say "humble beginnings", we mean it. We opened November 22, 2010, in an old auto parts store with 1/30th of what fills our shelves today. The nation was only beginning its creep out of a severe recession, and on opening day, a snowstorm blanketed Chimacum's streets. Despite it being the week before Thanksgiving, we offered not a single turkey. What were we thinking?
