Frequently Asked Questions

  • We’re so glad you asked—and for the truly curious, you can hear her story in full over here—but put simply, Turnip’s our beloved mascot and favorite helper. First emerging in portrait form, you might recognize her as the chick from the side of the building (or nowadays from all those bumper stickers!), and she’s been moving up in the Corner ranks ever since. These days she moonlights in the marketing department, and we do our best to keep up with her “go-getter” nature and fiery passion for our community and its food!

  • Not at the moment! We’re busy updating our systems and adjusting our offerings, but will be sure to let folks know if and when special orders are back up and running.

  • If by bathroom you mean porta-john, then yes we do! We’ve got a couple of ‘em just past the Corner Nursery that we keep in clean order for ya. And if it’s a true bathroom you need for accessibility reasons, check with folks inside—we’ve got septic limitations keeping our single bathroom staff only, but we do our best to accommodate folks when the need arises.

  • We sure don’t, but you’re welcome to ask our neighbors for sugar—or rather, you can head across the street to Chevron for that ice and an ATM.

  • You betcha! The Chimacum Farmers Market runs from May–October, and sets up shop alongside our parking lot on Sundays from 10am–2pm.

  • Our mighty little windmill is indeed functional, and would traditionally be used to draw up water. But so far we’ve just been enjoying its charm. Got ideas for how we might get ‘er going for more than just looks? Let us know!

  • Oh those kinetic sculptures, ya mean? That’d be Craig Sparks. We think they’re pretty cool too, and suggest you take a gander at more of his work over at his site www.wildnaturesolutions.com.

  • Being the small and curated grocer we are, our corner of personal care shelves are lined with locally made herbal remedies & bath/beauty products, and we leave the supplement and vitamin supplyin’ to our neighbors just north. Bear Root Apothecary or the Port Townsend Food Coop are two such spots we recommend you jaunt into town for.

  • While we do aim to be a community hub, we try to keep our parking to staff and customers only. These days it doesn’t take much to fill the lot with our growing crew and steady flow of customers, and that goes double or triple for the summer and weekends! If you’re nearby and in need, though, look for open street parking along Chimacum Road.

  • Any pets or pups that cruise through the store are required to be service animals, as health department regulations generally frown upon mixing food and furry friends. So while we’d love to aw and ogle at your dogs, we ask that you keep them outside or at home. And if they give ya any trouble, we do sell dog treats to smooth things over with.

  • Absolutely! As long as you’ve checked in with our team and agreed to our petitioner policy. Send along a note to our GM nicole@chimacumcorner.com to inquire and have your signature ready!

  • We do our best to sling groceries for ya year round, but a few days take exception. We end the year a little early, closing at 6pm on New Year’s Eve, and we start the next a little late, as New Years Day we’re closed for inventory. And the only two holidays we really take off are Thanksgiving and Christmas (plus an extra hour for Christmas Eve, when we close at 6pm). Other than that, we’re too busy at the store celebrating all our local food!

  • Of course! We take all forms of payment, including EBT.

  • We certainly do, but it sorta depends on the weather, or at least your willingness to embrace the outdoors. We’ve got a row of picnic tables just past the Corner Nursery available rain or shine—but if it does rain…dress (and umbrella) accordingly!

  • Nope! Our shop’s for shopping and connecting face to face.

  • Well, we do many things folks would associate with a co-op, but we are still a private locally-owned company.

  • We’re flattered, but our hands and hearts are plenty full from serving our Olympic Peninsula community. Keepin’ it local for us looks like pouring all we got into our Chimacum hub for locals and visitors alike. And hey, if we figured out how to do this whole grocery thing, maybe the local farm-forward corner store in your town is just waitin’ on you!
