CHICKEN SEEN CROSSING ROAD 5/28
May 24th, 2016 by Katy McCoy

“WHY?” you ask! To join Finnriver in celebrating the BIG EXCITING move of their tasting room and public space from the farm on Barn Swallow Rd to their new digs at 124 Center Road… ACROSS THE STREET FROM US!!!

The new site on the grounds of the historic Brown Dairy (did we mention “across the street from us!!!”?) is truly spectacular – a place you will want to visit repeatedly. Grab yourself a Dented Buoy Pizza, a tall refreshing glass of draft cider, and sit yourself at the fabulous long table. Marvel at how comfortable sitting on an old cow feeding trough actually is. Look up and admire the beautiful new open pavilion reportedly built in 10 days. Then gaze out at the orchard, Keith’s rows of grain, the fields under cultivation by the Organic Seed Alliance and Essential Blooms, and oh yes, the Bocce Court. Tap your foot to the music and pinch yourself at how incredibly lucky we are to live here.

Finnriver May 28th Opening Details: Saturday is the big day. The doors open at noon and stay open ’til 9:00pm! In addition to Dented Buoy pizza, fuel yourself with Paella House paella and Java Gypsy coffee. Starting at 6, Port Angeles’s acclaimed band, Joy in Mudville, will be playing their tunes inspired by old-time bluegrass, folk, rock, country, blues and funk!

Technically, from 5-9 is the “after-party” for the PT Farmers Market Artisan Food Festival (see below!). The suggested donation of $5 to attend the “after-party” will go to support the farmers market Gimme5 food assistance program.

Finnriver May 29th and Beyond: Not a one day event, we are in for a whole summer of fun at Finnriver. Here are the basics, but you can always go to their event calendar for specifics:

  • Tasting Room Summer Hours (beginning 5/27): Sun-Thurs 12-6, Fri-Sat 12-9
  • Food: Dented Buoy Woodfired Pizza on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Hama Hama Oysters on Sundays. Bar Snacks other days.
  • Music: Saturday evenings 6-9 ($5 suggested donation to support the band). Sunday afternoons 2-5 (free and family friendly). Here’s the Finnriver music calendar.
  • Johnny Appleseed Historic Tours: June & Sept 2-3pm, July and Aug 2-3 and 4-5 pm.

MAY 28th Artisan Food Festival: A little far for the chicken to walk, but you don’t want to miss out on the PT Farmers Market 3rd annual Artisan Food Festival from 9-3. Sign up for the $20 cooking classes (taught by local celebrities Aaron Stark, Midori, Mama’s Harvest, Mystery Bay Farm, and Finnriver) or simply enjoy the free chef demonstrations, food juggling, and kid’s activities (YMCA and PT Public Library). In case the usual 70+ local venders are not enough, there will be additional guest venders and music by the Unexpected Brass Band and the Rhythm Planet.

And that pretty much wraps up this weekend. Although Cracker reminds you to use the crosswalk and look both ways when crossing the street, the Corner parking attendant asks you to drive if you are going to spend much time at Finnriver so we have enough parking for customers. Have fun!
