SpringRain Chicken Tasting March 26th, noon-3
March 24th, 2011 by Katy McCoy
Freedom Ranger meat birds and John Bellow

Join your neighbors at the Corner this coming Saturday (3/26) in tasting SpringRain Farm chicken cooked by Ajax Cafe chef, Jon Luzadder.  Jon, the chef, and John, the farmer, will both be there to answer questions.  Jon will be serving a delicious cider-braised preparation that is featured at their restaurant.

These are special birds in that they are certified organic and are truly “free-range”.  The chickens spend their days foraging for bugs and seeds, running and flapping their wings, protected in large portable shelters that are moved on a regular basis. They are fed organic feed from In Seasons Farm in Abbotsford, BC.  Because they are slower growing and more muscular than commercial birds, they have a tender but more “meaty” consistency and a more flavorful taste than standard grocery store fare.  Once you get a taste for them, there’s no going back.  “Freedom Rangers” were bred by the French in the 1960s for their quality meat and is the breed favored by many of the best French restaurants.

The chickens are selling for $4.99/ lb.  Spring Rain Farm will be giving free t-shirts to the first 10 customers buying a chicken.

Meet you at the Corner!
