What is it? It’s unique and somewhat hard to describe – it’s a service that:
- Searches out for you the highest quality local foods with an emphasis on organic and seasonal choices
- Offers you great prices by selling in larger quantities and by offering #2 grade options when available (imperfect looking produce that is perfect for canning)
- Provides personalized service with secure online ordering and delivery to one of 9 drop-off points
- Educates you regarding the differences in varieties and growing conditions and how that affects the taste, texture, seasonality, etc
- Not only offers produce, but a range of popular in-store items such as meats, cheeses and sweets that may not otherwise be accessible to those living a farther distance from Chimacum.
How does it work?
- Depending on the season and availability of the foods we want to feature, an “offering” is put together every 2-4 weeks.
- You will be sent a newsletter when the online store “goes live” and is ready to take your order.
- The newsletter will announce the delivery dates for this offering and the deadline by which orders need to be placed.
- You place your order online, specify your desired pick-up point, and we deliver your order.
- There are 9 delivery locations including Woodinville, North Shoreline, Kingston, 2 sites on Bainbridge Island, Chimacum, Port Townsend, Silverdale, and Bremerton.
- Currently All-One-Family still operates on a website different from Chimacum Corner’s. We are in the process of rebuilding the online store on our website and appreciate your patience in the meantime.
What is the story behind All-One-Family?
This story is about Rob Story. Six years ago Rob, new to the Chimacum area, found himself frustrated at the difficulty he and his fellow fellow home-school community were having obtaining affordable organic fruit. Having recently moved from Hawaii, he was spoiled by an abundance of sweet juicy high-quality fruit. In desperation, he volunteered to drive to Eastern Washington, buy the desired fruit in quantity at bulk prices, and bring it back for his family and friends.
With time he got to know more of the Eastern Washington farmers and his circle of friends wanting such fruit grew. To streamline the process, he built a website, and named the business after his family’s farm, “All One Family Farm”. Over the years the business grew and last year he and his 2 daughters found themselves serving over 300 families in 4 counties with offerings expanded far beyond fruit.
In October of 2011, Rob was hired by Chimacum Corner Farmstand to run the produce department. Before long, he was promoted and became the store’s first “general manager”. Rather that let his beloved All-One-Family-Farm business perish, the decision was made to incorporate it into the Corner business, where it is the cornerstone of our “food hub” vision.
And that brings us to tomorrow. We have no doubt that “All-One-Family” will continue to morph and improve as agricultural community strengthens and new opportunities unfold. All very exciting.
